Man freed from jail by mistake rearrested

A man who had been accidentally released from the Las Vegas jail Friday was re-arrested Monday night, a city spokesman said.

Authorities found Charles Rutherford, 59, about 8 p.m. at an apartment complex in the 7000 block of Paradise Road, David Riggleman said.

Rutherford had been in the city jail on county bench warrants for property-related crimes stemming from a 2006 arrest, a city spokeswoman said.

Jail officials discovered Saturday that he had mistakenly been released. He had been misidentified as another inmate who was scheduled to be discharged, the spokeswoman said.

Officials were continuing to investigate the error on Monday.
