Man gets prison for setting fire to former workplace

A fired assistant manager of a beauty supply warehouse pleaded guilty Thursday to maliciously setting fire to the business, causing more $1 million in damages.

Reynaldo Staana, 48,, pleaded guilty to one felony count of arson of property used in or affecting interstate commerce.

He faces 5 to 20 years in federal prison and a maximum $250,000 fine.

U.S. District Judge James Mahan set a May 6 sentencing.

Staana has been in federal custody since his arrest in the Sept. 8 arson at the Beauty Supply Warehouse, 3310 S. Nellis Blvd.

According to a criminal complaint, Staana was fired from his supervisor’s position a few weeks before he entered the warehouse after hours on Sept. 8 to steal money from the cash registers.

Investigators reviewed security video showing Staana inside the building setting the fire with flammable liquid before leaving with a briefcase authorities said contained money.

This case was investigated by the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Clark County Fire Department and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Christina Brown.
