Man injured in blaze sparked by ‘careless handling of ashes’

One person was hospitalized following a garage fire in the northeast valley blamed on "careless handling of ashes," according to the Clark County Fire Department.

The extent of the injuries to the person, who was taken to University Medical Center, was not immediately available.

Fire crews from Clark County, Las Vegas and North Las Vegas were called about 2:30 p.m. to a home at Alto Drive, near the intersection of Cheyenne Avenue and Pecos Road, the department said.

When firefighters arrived, they found smoke coming from the garage of a single-story home, the fire department said. The blaze was contained in the garage.

No one else was injured and the fire was deemed to be accidental and "related to careless handling of ashes," the fire department said.
