Man killed in shooting Monday is identified

The man killed in a central valley shooting Monday night was identified by the Clark County coroner's office Wednesday as 24-year-old Russell Bell Jr.

Bell, of Las Vegas, died from gunshot wounds to the head and chest, the coroner's office said.

According to Las Vegas police, the shooting occurred about 10:22 p.m. in the 1100 block of Freeman Avenue, near Martin Luther King Boulevard and Owens Avenue.

Bell and an unidentified man were sitting in a side yard of a home when a third man approached and fired several shots, striking both men and peppering a nearby house and vehicle with bullet holes, police said.

Bell, who lived in the house, died at the scene.

The other man, a 25-year-old, was taken to the University Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the leg.

A clear motive hadn't been identified shortly after the shooting. Homicide Sgt. Russ Shoemaker said Wednesday that the suspect was still at large. He also said the man shot in the leg was expected to make a full recovery.

Shoemaker didn't want to comment further on the investigation.
