Man shot in front of east valley home was from Henderson

The man shot to death in front of an east valley home Saturday morning has been identified as 20-year-old Jason Gallegos of Henderson.

Gallegos was shot multiple times in front of a home on the 3800 block of Hudson Bay Avenue, near Pecos and Bonanza roads, about 6:30 a.m. He died at University Medical Center.

Las Vegas police Sgt. Russ Shoemaker said detectives believe Gallegos was at the home to rob the people inside. A man who lives at the home heard noises that morning, grabbed a pistol and went to investigate.

When the man went outside, he walked in between a van and a pickup truck that were parked in the driveway. He saw Gallegos, who was wearing a hoodie and hiding between the vehicles, Shoemaker said.

Gallegos attacked the man, who fired several shots, striking Gallegos multiple times. The man also shot himself in the arm, suffering non-life threatening injuries, Shoemaker said.

Police are continuing to investigate the case and have not arrested the resident who fired the shots. They will turn the case over the district attorney's office for review, as is routine, Shoemaker said.

Shoemaker said detectives do not believe the incident was drug-related or a random act.
