Man who killed family, shot himself dies in hospital
The man who killed his family last week before shooting himself has died from his injuries.
Jim McCarty, 54, died Saturday at University Medical Center. His death was a suicide from a gunshot wound to the head, according to the Clark County coroner's office.
The shooting happened the afternoon of Jan. 29 inside the McCarty's home on 2225 La Sombra St.
Las Vegas police said McCarty shot and killed his wife, Linda McCarty, 62, and her two adult children, Bobby Scherrer, 41, and Bonnie Scherrer, 38.
Jim McCarty also killed the family dog, police said.
He had suffered from pancreatic cancer in recent years, but neighbors said they thought his disease was in remission. Linda had a stroke a few years ago and needed a wheelchair, they said.
The family had owned the home since the late 1980s.
