Man wounds estranged wife, kills himself in North Las Vegas

A 67-year-old man shot and wounded his wife and then killed himself in North Las Vegas following a domestic dispute Saturday, according to police.

North Las Vegas police responded to Cantura Crest Court, near West Ann Road and Allen Lane, just after noon after receiving reports of gunfire.

Officers found the man’s 23-year-old wife down the street with at least one gunshot wound. She was transported to University Medical Center, and police spokesman Tim Bedwell said he thought the woman would live.

The prelimiary investigation revealed that the couple was separated and the woman had gone to his home for some sort of property exchange. A dispute escalated, he shot her and she collapsed in the front yard, police said.

A neighbor, also armed, helped the woman to safety.

The shooter confronted police, then fatally shot himself with a handgun before any discussion, police said.

The Clark County coroner’s office will release his identity once his family has been notified.
