Massive internal injuries led to woman’s death after horse fell on her

CARSON CITY - Authorities say an autopsy shows a woman suffered massive internal injuries when the horse she was riding reared and then fell on top of her during a weekend rodeo in Carson City.

Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong told the Reno Gazette-Journal that Mariam Morelos was riding during an entertainment segment of the event when a horse got spooked.

Furlong said an autopsy conducted by the Washoe County Medical Examiner's Office concluded Morelos was crushed by the horse and suffered irreparable internal bleeding.

The accident happened during the Francisco Pacheco Rodeo and Concert held in Fuji Park.
