Measurable rain arrives in valley

Parts of the valley on Monday night saw measurable amounts of rain for the first time in more than three months, according to the National Weather Service.

Up to 0.6 of an inch of rain had fallen in the south and southwest parts of the valley as of 10:40 p.m., according to the weather service.

McCarran International Airport, the official measuring station for Las Vegas, had not had any measurable rain since April 16, when 0.08 of an inch fell.

Las Vegas' total precipitation in 2006 was 1.69 inches. Through Monday night, the total was 0.3 inches this year.

There will be a 30 percent chance of rain today, with scattered showers and thunderstorms possible in the next few days as moisture from the south mixes with the heat.
