CARSON CITY — Authorities found the body of a 9-year-old boy on Saturday morning in Carson City, about 12 hours after he was reported missing by his mother.
Sheriff Kenny Furlong said Patrick Ryea was found dead in the charred remains of a shed that went up in flames Friday night.
“It wasn’t until the sun came up that you could see the body,” Furlong told the Nevada Appeal.
The boy was last seen late Friday afternoon when he went outside to play.
Investigators said they believe the child started the fire and somehow became trapped inside the shed.
Fire crews extinguished the fire Friday evening, shortly before a search was launched for the boy. Two other blazes on the property were put out at the same time.
More than 35 searchers canvassed a four-square-mile area around the home throughout the night.
