Mom Mel B mad about kid soldiers

Mel B on Monday added her voice to other celebrities' who are calling for the end of a regime that forces Ugandan children into a life of kidnapping and murder.

The "Peepshow" co-star stood at a press avail at Planet Hollywood Resort on Monday and vilified the heinous child-soldier practice.

"The least that we can do is start a storm and create awareness," she told me afterward.

A rebel militia in Uganda kidnaps boys and turns them into little soldiers who are forced to rape and murder people, sometimes their own families.

Oprah Winfrey and other celebrities have joined the cause to increase media and political pressure on Uganda.

Mel B, well versed on the issue, says it's an appalling tragedy that one man, Joseph Kony, and his Lord's Resistance Army have killed hundreds of thousands:

"Having three kids of my own, I would be horrified if some twisted and evil man kidnapped them and tortured them, made them kill people -- and then kill their own families," she said. "And this is one man who's doing all this."

MORE PEEPS

There's been a lot of buzz suggesting Lindsay Lohan might sign up to co-star in "Peepshow," because Mel B and Kelly Monaco are contracted only for several months with options to stay.

As columnist Norm Clarke reported, Elizabeth ("Showgirls") Berkley also is in contention, though Lohan sounds like a long shot.

And there are more names in the hat. Women who already have auditioned: Holly Madison, Aubrey O'Day, Berkley and Brooke Burke.

I've seen all of those women naked. They've appeared in various states of undress in public photos or film. It takes an exhibitionist to be in "Peepshow." I mean that in a good way. If you don't like public exhibitionism, you're swimming upstream in Vegas.

With all due respect to my great friend Norm, who rightfully points out that Vegas might not be the healthiest watering hole for a recovering Lohan, I would pay good money to see her in that topless number where Monaco flashes halos, covered by hand prints made of pink body latex.

What I'm saying is, Norm's a nicer person than I am. Lindsay's got troubles? Not my problem.

By the way, director Jerry Mitchell received a crazy letter from a Mel B fan who appealed to Mitchell to talk to the Spice Girl for him. The guy said he craves to reunite the Spice Girls -- and he wants to be part of the group.

"I'm just a guy trying to live his dream," the letter writer begged.

"Hey, we all gotta have a dream," Mitchell says.

The writer also declared, "I'm not a stalker," sparking Mitchell to say to me, "Which means he IS a stalker."

In other creepazoid "Peepshow" news: Monaco isn't talking publicly about the intruder who broke into her Planet Hollywood penthouse, says a publicist. Can't say I blame her.

PLAYMATES, PLAYMATES

• Playboy announces its Playmate of the Year at Simon Restaurant at Palms Place on Saturday night. Hugh Hefner will be there, along with Playmates from the past 55 years -- Hugh's youth ago! The host is Brande Roderick of "Celebrity Apprentice" and 2001's Playmate of the Year. But ... you can't get in without an invite.

Danny ("That '70s Show" and Lohan ex) Masterson spun the tables at Wasted Space on Sunday, along with his brother, Christopher, who played Francis in "Malcolm in the Middle." "American Idol" producer Nigel Lythgoe chowed at Strip House at Planet Hollywood Resort on Sunday with Debbie Allen and Mia Michaels of "So You Think You Can Dance" (and Celine Dion's Vegas choreographer).

• Local cops get two free tickets each to see Michael Winslow, the sound effects comedian from "Police Academy" movies, during his stand-up Thursday through Saturday at Palace Station's Bonkerz Comedy Club. You have to pick up the tickets at 6 p.m. Thursday. Some ticket proceeds will go to the Injured Police Officer Fund.
