Money expert, 65, dies

Margaret Eleanor Maul, 65, owner of a Las Vegas money management firm, died Saturday of complications from leukemia.

She moved to Las Vegas in 1994 and established Maul Capital Management to handle investments for wealthy individuals and 401(k) retirement programs. The company manages about $160 million in assets for clients.

"Margaret Maul was the greatest example of entrepreneurism in Nevada as well as the nation," said Steve Stern of Stern and Co. public relations, which represented Maul Capital for two years.

"She came here as a financial adviser and built Maul Capital Management into the largest financial advisory boutique in Nevada," Stern said.

Maul was born in Fresno, Calif., and lived most of her life in the California Central Valley. She grew up on the family farm. She returned to college while raising two children and working, later graduating with honors from California State University, Fresno.

She joined Merrill Lynch as a stockbroker in 1979, later becoming senior vice president of Prudential Securities. Maul told the Review-Journal two years ago that creating Maul Capital Management in 1997 was her "lifelong dream."

She was a certified investment adviser and a certified investment management analyst.

The Nevada Business Journal recognized Maul in 2003 as one of the "Women to Watch."

Survivors include her husband, Guy Nanin; daughters, Suzanne Youles and Kristina Berger; brother Jon Price; and two grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. today at King David Memorial Chapel and Cemetery, 2697 E. Eldorado Lane.
