Month-to-month drug testing contract approved for Clark County Family Services

Clark County commissioners on Tuesday approved extending a month-to-month contract with a local company for specimen collection and drug testing services to the county’s Department of Family Services.

The move follows a decision last month to table approval for a $2.6 million contract with a San Diego company for the same services.

The extension could go through Oct. 31. The amendment will allow services to continue while proposals for permanent services are evaluated, according to Kristi Jourdan, Family Services spokeswoman.

Last month, concerns were raised about California’s Phamatech Inc., being out-of-state, how the previous contractor was evaluated and the vetting process as a whole. Clark County Commissioner Lawrence Weekly also questioned whether the San Diego company had a connection with a county employee.

Concerns related to the quality of services also were raised with Synergy, the local company who held the contract and now provides month-to-month services.

County officials are still reviewing the proposals to determine what the next step will be.
