Calif. teen pleads not guilty in 8-year-old girl’s death

A 15-year-old California boy has pleaded not guilty in the death of an 8-year-old girl in July.

Adrian Jerry Gonzalez of Santa Cruz faces one count of murder, one count of kidnapping and four sexual assault-related offenses in the death of Madyson Middleton, also of Santa Cruz.

Madyson was last seen riding a scooter about 5 p.m. on July 26 at the apartment complex where she lived with her family. Her body was found the next day in a dumpster at the complex. Gonzalez also lived in the same apartment complex.

Police said Madyson knew the teen who lured her to his family's apartment.

Gonzalez is being held on a $5 million bail. He could face live in prison if convicted.
