Pa. men face 20 years in prison for dropping rock from highway overpass

HARRISBURG, Pa. — The admitted ringleader of a group who dropped a rock from a Pennsylvania highway overpass, critically injuring an Ohio teacher, and another man face up to 20 years in prison at their sentencing on Thursday.

Dylan Lahr, 18, of New Columbia, Pennsylvania, previously pleaded guilty to aggravated assault for tossing the rock off the overpass onto a car passing below last year.

He and Tyler Porter, 19, of Milton, were due at the Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, courtroom later on Thursday to be sentenced for their role in the July 2014 incident along Interstate 80. Another man, Keefer McGee, 18, of New Columbia, will also appear to face a lesser penalty for cooperating with authorities.

A fourth man, Lahr's older brother, Brett Lahr, 20, was sentenced in June to 18 months to 20 years behind bars after he pleaded no contest to conspiracy to commit aggravated assault.

Ohio school teacher Sharon Budd, 53, was struck in the head by the rock and left severely disfigured, losing use of one eye. She had been riding with her family to New York City to see a Broadway play when she was struck.

Her family said she had undergone at least six surgeries because of her injuries.

Lahr faces a possible prison term of four and half years to 20 years.

Porter, who pleaded no contest to conspiracy to commit aggravated assault, faces a minimum of 22 months and a maximum of 10 to 20 years.

McGee, who pleaded guilty to aggravated assault, is expected to receive a sentence between nine and 23 months because of his cooperation.
