Pilot reported killed in Colo. Flight for Life helicopter crash
A Flight for Life helicopter crashed at St. Anthony Summit Medical Center in Frisco, Colorado on Friday afternoon. Lake Dillon Fire-Rescue got the call around 1:45 p.m. Frisco is right along Interstate 70, about 70 miles west of Denver.
KCNC, a Denver TV station, is reporting the pilot was killed and two others were treated for injuries. The station also reported that those on the flight were medical personnel and no patients were on board.
When crews arrived the helicopter and a nearby truck were engulfed in flames. Reports said the chopper went down in the parking lot.
Fire officials reported that the helicopter had crashed and then caught on fire.
First responders quickly extinguished the flames. Crews from Red, White & Blue Fire, the Summit County Sheriff, Summit County Ambulance and Frisco Police also responded to the crash.
The investigation into what caused the crash was just beginning late Friday afternoon.
Flight for Life Colorado provides critical care transport with five helicopters, three airplanes and three ambulances. Flight for Life was the first hospital-based air ambulance in the United States.
