Rockslide closes State Route 9 in Zion National Park

Utah State Route 9 is closed through Zion National Park after a major rock fall, officials said Wednesday.

The roadway, also called Zion-Mount Carmel Highway, will be closed between Canyon Junction and the park's east entrance until crews can remove large boulders. It is expected to reopen Wednesday evening, the National Park Service said in a news release.

Emergency responders are not able to access the east side of Zion, the release said. The Scenic Drive and Zion Canyon remain open.

Alternate routes include Highway 59 from Hurricane, Utah, and Highway 14 from Cedar City, Utah.

All park facilities are open and operating as normal.
