Video shows Indiana officer breaking car window, using Taser

HAMMOND, Ind. — A cellphone video shows police in Indiana breaking a car window and using a stun gun on a passenger.

The video was recorded by someone in the car who’s suing Hammond police over a Sept. 24 confrontation.

The four people in the car were Jamal Jones, Lisa Mahone and Mahone’s 14-year-old son and 7-year-old daughter. Their attorney released the video Tuesday. A lawsuit filed Monday in U.S. District Court against several officers and the city seeks unspecified damages.

The video shows shards of glass showering the vehicle’s four occupants before Jones is shocked with the stun gun.

The Hammond Police Department says officers feared for their safety and had ordered Jones to get out of the car after they saw his hands drop to a center console in the vehicle.
