North Las Vegas man struck, killed crossing street

A driver who ran a traffic light fatally struck a 22-year-old man who was in a crosswalk, North Las Vegas police said Tuesday.

Police did not identify the deceased man, who was a North Las Vegas resident.

The collision occurred at 7:08 a.m. at the intersection of Craig Road and Berg Street, near Losee Road, police said.

An unidentified 29-year-old woman, a North Las Vegas resident, was responsible for the collision, police said.

Police said she was traveling east on Craig in a Volkswagen sedan while the pedestrian was walking north in a crosswalk with a walk signal.

Witnesses told police the driver failed to stop at a red light. Police said the pedestrian struck the windshield before landing on the roadway. He died at the scene. The driver was not injured.

Police said the driver was subjected to a mandatory blood draw to help determine whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the accident.

Police said the driver was not paying attention just prior to the collision. Charges against her might be recommended after the investigation is concluded and toxicology test results are returned.
