North Las Vegas police investigate two traffic fatalities

Two men died in separate traffic fatalities in North Las Vegas on Friday night.

One man on a mountain bike crossing Cheyenne Avenue near Rancho Drive was killed after he was struck by a woman driving a Kia sport utility vehicle at 7:20 p.m., said Chrissie Coon, North Las Vegas police spokeswoman. She said the cyclist, who wasn’t wearing a helmet, had forced several drivers to slam on their brakes to avoid hitting him as he crossed Cheyenne.

Earlier Friday, at 5:35 p.m., a man in a Ford sedan was killed after a 27-year-old woman in a Hyundai SUV rear-ended him. According to Coon, the man was turning right into a commercial shopping center when the woman crashed into him.

The impact sent the Ford into a light pole. Coon said the driver of the Hyundai will face felony charges in the case.

“She was at fault,” Coon said.
