Obama coming to North Las Vegas on Wednesday for rally
President Barack Obama will hold a campaign rally Wednesday morning at Canyon Springs High School in North Las Vegas, the day after he visits Reno during a two-day Nevada stop, his campaign announced Friday.
Obama's visit will occur a week after GOP vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan dropped into Las Vegas on Tuesday to make his Nevada campaign debut as Mitt Romney's running mate. The president's trip comes as Nevada's unemployment rate ticked up to 12 percent, the latest sign of the stagnant economy.
"The President will discuss the choice in this election between two fundamentally different visions of how to grow the economy, create middle-class jobs and pay down the debt," the Obama campaign said in a statement.
Obama wants to extend the Bush-era tax cuts to the first $250,000 of household income, while Republicans want to extend the cuts to everyone, regardless of income, to spur an economic recovery.
Nevada is one of the key battleground states that could decide the Nov. 6 presidential election.
The public is invited to the Canyon Springs High School event with doors opening at 7 a.m.
Tickets are required to attend. One free ticket per person will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis at several sites. They can be picked up starting Sunday at 11 a.m. at four different Obama campaign offices:
■ 3230 E. Charleston Blvd., No. 111, in Las Vegas.
■ 7469 W. Lake Mead Blvd., No. 170, in Las Vegas.
■ 860 S. Rancho Drive, No. 7, in Las Vegas.
■ And 1720 W. Horizon Ridge Parkway , No. 120, in Henderson.
In Reno on Tuesday, Obama is scheduled to hold a 2:30 p.m. rally at Truckee Meadows Community College on the Dandini Campus, according to his campaign.
Free tickets are available starting Sunday at 11 a.m. on a first-come, first-served basis. The following Obama campaign offices will be distributing the tickets:

■ 1465 Terminal Way in Reno.
■ 502 E. John St. in Carson City.
