Obama to be in Reno Thursday for town hall on deficit

President Barack Obama plans to visit Reno on Thursday to hold a town hall on his proposal to bring down the budget deficit by $4 trillion over the next dozen years, the White House announced Friday.

The Nevada stops comes after the president launched his re-election campaign 19 months before Election Day.

"He think it's important to go out and directly interact with the American people," White House communications director Dan Pfeiffer told reporters during a conference call.

Obama will hold a town hall in Virginia next Tuesday and then travel to Palo Alto, Calif., for a Facebook forum at the company's headquarters there on Wednesday before his Reno stop.

No details were immediately available for Obama's visit to Reno, which would be his first as president.
