Officer who shot at suspect Tuesday identified

A Las Vegas police officer who shot at a man suspected in the beating of his girlfriend Tuesday was identified as Sgt. Curtis Wills.

Wills, 46, has been with the Metropolitan Police Department since 1990 and is assigned to Northeast Area Command.

Police said Wills fired at Jeff Burguin, 48, in the 900 block of Linn Lane, near Bonanza Road and Christy Lane, after Burguin held his hand behind his back and then quickly pointed it at the officer.

Wills fired one shot, which missed. Police have not said whether Burguin had a weapon.

Burguin was arrested and charged with battery domestic violence. Police were called to the scene after receiving a 911 call about a domestic dispute involving a knife.
