Officers injured during attempt to make drug arrest

Two Las Vegas police officers suffered minor injuries Wednesday during a narcotics arrest when they were struck by the suspects’ vehicle.

The incident occurred before 1:15 p.m. on Buffalo Drive near Lake Mead Boulevard. One officer was attempting to arrest two suspects in a 1999 Volkswagen Jetta on drug-related charges. The driver of the Jetta became aggressive and rammed the officer who was in his car, an unmarked 2003 Nissan Maxima, police said. The suspects fled and hit another officer in an unmarked Dodge 1500 pickup truck, police said.

The officer in the Maxima then hit the Volkswagen, which had traveled several feet down Buffalo, near Bauble Avenue.

The injured officers, whose identities were not released, and both suspects were taken to a local hospital. The officers were treated for non-life threatening injuries and released. The driver and passenger of the Volkswagen were taken to University Medical Center with critical and moderate injuries. It was not known Wednesday night what charges the suspects may face.
