One person killed, another injured in east valley crash

A woman was killed after a light pole fell on her after it was struck by an out-of-control van Monday afternoon.

Las Vegas police responded to the scene near Bonanza and Pecos roads about 1:30 p.m.

A 1990 Chevrolet Astro van was traveling east on Bonanza Road when it veered to the right, jumped the curb and struck the street light pole, according to police.

The pole hit the woman, who was walking on the south sidewalk of Bonanza, police said.

The van darted back into the roadway and struck two parked cars before finally stopping.

Medical personnel pronounced the woman dead at the scene. The driver of the van was not injured, police said.

The woman’s identity and official cause and manner of death will be released by the Clark County coroner’s office pending notification of next of kin.

This was the 107th traffic related fatality in the Metropolitan Police Department’s jurisdiction in 2013.
