Pair of motorcycle stunts successful on the Las Vegas Strip

12/31/2008 9:24 PM
Australian daredevil Robbie Maddison thrilled the early crowd at the Paris Las Vegas tonight when he jumped his motorcycle onto the top of the Arc de Triomphe replica, then dropped from there onto a landing ramp. The monument stands 97 feet high.

The stunt by the 27-year-old followed his record-breaking, 322-foot jump last New Year's Eve at the Rio.

Maddison, who has called Evel Knievel a hero, broke his own record three months later. He jumped 346 feet in Australia in March.

After completing the stunt, Maddison said he thought he had broken his hand.

Robbie Knievel successfully made a daredevil motorcycle jump in front of the volcano at The Mirage in a stunt for Fox TV. Previous reports said he would be jumping over the volcano.

The stunt marked the 41st anniversary of the unsuccessful attempt by Knievel's famous daredevil father, Evel Knievel, to jump over the fountain at Caesars Palace.

Though it already smells faintly like beer on the Strip, there is still plenty of room to walk around. Crowds appear relatively light so far. The roads remain open, as well. Traffic is very light on the Strip, but heavy on Flamingo Road. The ramps for the stunt at Paris Las Vegas have been set up and appear ready to go.
