Partying Paris no charity case

Paris Hilton's next move? For starters she should find a good cause and make good on an old promise.

That wasn't the case three years ago after she went to jail for 23 days for violating her probation following a 2006 DUI arrest.

"I want to visit more countries where poverty and children's issues are a big concern," she said after her jail stint. "I know there's a lot of good I can do just by getting involved and bringing attention to these issues."

Hilton returns to Las Vegas today to formally plead guilty after a plea agreement dropped her felony cocaine possession case last month to two misdemeanors.

She faces Justice of the Peace Joe Bonaventure Jr., who oversaw O.J. Simpson's Las Vegas arraignment in 2007.

Hilton has been criticized for picking up where she left off before her jail stay, choosing the party life over acts of charity.

It will be interesting to see whether Bonaventure tells her to do something with her life.

Being banned from Steve Wynn's resorts should be a wake-up call. A major club executive told me Sunday the jury's out on to what degree she would be welcomed back to the Las Vegas club scene, where she has made millions in appearance fees over the past decade.

"I don't know how Vegas will respond," the executive told me.

For someone who clearly loves animals, I'm surprised she hasn't embraced that cause.

There are numerous cases of her quietly visiting Las Vegas pet stores and buying dozens of them .

It's time to give up the party animal reputation and become the face of animal advocacy or families in need. Channel the red carpet fame into something more meaningful.
