Pedestrian killed in crosswalk after car runs red light

A young man was killed Tuesday morning after he was struck by a car while crossing a street, North Las Vegas police said.

The victim, a 22-year-old North Las Vegas resident, has not been identified, said police spokeswoman Chrissie Coon.

The accident happened about 7 a.m. in the northeast valley when a car traveling eastbound on Craig Road, near Berg Street, struck the victim, police said.

According to police, the Volkswagen sedan was being driven by a 29-year-old North Las Vegas resident who failed to obey the red light at Berg Street and hit the man, who was in a cross walk with a walk signal.

The pedestrian hit the car's windshield before coming to rest on the roadway.

The name of the pedestrian will be released by the Clark County coroner after family notification.
