Police arrest man accused of robbing casino, stealing two vehicles

A man who robbed a casino cashier at gunpoint and stole two vehicles Monday was arrested after officers found him hiding in a mobile home park, Las Vegas police said.

The suspect, 29-year-old Michael Patrick Dorotiak, was arrested about 10:30 a.m. at a mobile home near Decatur Boulevard and Twain Avenue. He faces three counts of kidnapping, three counts of robbery with a weapon and two counts of grand larceny auto.

Police made the arrest after establishing a perimeter around a search area for the suspect, who was seen climbing a wall into the complex.

Officer Barbara Morgan, a police spokeswoman, said the incident began when Dorotiak carjacked a white Ford Expedition at a gas station near Flamingo and Lindell roads at 6:23 a.m. He then drove to The Orleans, where he pointed a handgun at a cashier and took an undisclosed amount of money, Morgan said.

Dorotiak fled to the parking lot, where he was unable to find his vehicle, Morgan said.

"He's not the smartest crook in the world," she said. "He gets to the parking lot and can't find his car."

Dorotiak carjacked another vehicle, a red pickup, Morgan said, but crashed in the parking lot. He then fled on foot, running north before disappearing over a wall into the park, she said.

No one was injured. Police retrieved the handgun from the pickup, Morgan said.
