Police identify teen clubbed in robbery attempt

A Henderson teenager who died after being clubbed while attempting to rob a North Las Vegas convenience store last month was identified Monday.

Stefan Muradyan, 17, was hit with a baseball bat by a clerk at the Family Stop convenience store on Ann Road near Clayton Street July 21. He died Sunday at University Medical Center.

Police said Muradyan, possibly a Russian national, used a fake handgun to hold up the store. He demanded money and cigarettes from the 52-year-old store clerk, who attempted to comply with his demands, police said.

When the teen turned to confront two customers who entered the store, the clerk pulled out an aluminum baseball bat and struck him in the head, according to police.

Authorities said soon after the incident that they had no plans to charge the store clerk. North Las Vegas Police spokesman Sgt. Tim Bedwell said he used justifiable force to defend himself.

On Monday, Bedwell said officers are trying to locate a second person who might have been involved in the robbery. If anyone has information on the robbery, Bedwell said they should call CrimeStoppers at 385-5555.
