Police release video in hopes of identifying suspects in attack

Las Vegas police released video footage Monday in hopes of identifying two female suspects responsible for fatally injuring a 95-year-old woman while trying to steal her purse in a supermarket parking lot in July.

The July 26 footage shows Bertha "Bert" Meier walking through a Smith's food and drug store parking lot near Desert Inn Road and Decatur Boulevard.

Meier was carrying an umbrella and pushing a shopping cart when a car, possibly a blue Nissan Sentra, approached from the opposite side of the lot. When the vehicle stopped, a passenger exited and attempted to steal Meier's purse.

Meier refused to let go and was pushed to the pavement before the assailant stepped back into the car, driven by the second suspect, and headed toward Desert Inn.

The attack occurred about 9:45 a.m., police said.

Meier's hip was shattered in the attack. She died Aug. 16 from her injuries.

The suspect who attacked Meier is described as white, 20 to 24 years old, 5 feet 5 inches tall and 120 to 140 pounds. She wore a light brown dress during the attack.

The driver was an adult white woman and possibly has brown hair.

Anyone with knowledge of the crime is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 385-5555 or the Las Vegas police Homicide Section at 828-3521.
