Police say man beat, shot 75-year-old before her death

When 75-year-old Jean Main was killed in her home May 22, she was struck with a pistol, shot in the head and left for dead.

Now, Bayzle Morgan, 21, and Keith Smith, 46, have been arrested and charged for the crime.

According to police reports, Morgan entered Main’s home that morning and struck her several times with a pistol. He then shot her in the head.

Smith, the getaway driver, left when he heard gunshots but returned shortly after and saw Morgan with a suitcase of items from Main’s house, according to the arrest report.

The police recovered a laptop, a Kindle Fire, a purse with $800 and keys to a Cadillac Escalade at Morgan’s residence when he was arrested May 30.

He was charged with first-degree murder, burglary, robbery and kidnapping while Smith was charged with burglary and conspiracy to commit burglary.

This investigation is ongoing.
