Police say man shot, killed son, ailing wife

A man in his 80s shot both his wife and son in their southeast valley home in an apparent murder-suicide, Las Vegas police confirmed this morning.

Police found the bodies Wednesday evening at 4775 Canna Drive, near Tropicana Avenue and Boulder Highway.

The Clark County coroner’s office hadn’t identified the deceased as of this morning.

Police said the natural gas on the stove had been turned on for up to 24 hours before the bodies were discovered.

Homicide Lt. Lew Roberts said the woman was in her early 80s too, and the couple’s son was 46.

After speaking with friends and family, police have established that the wife had recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer, Roberts said. It has not been established why the couples’s son was also fatally shot.

“He couldn’t stomach to live without his wife,” Roberts said. “It’s clear to us that the mother and father had a pact to die. But it's not clear to us if the son was involved in the pact.”
