Police say suspect killed himself after standoff

A police standoff early today that lasted more than three hours ended when the suspect killed himself, Las Vegas police said.

Police first received a call regarding a stolen vehicle at 10 p.m. Tuesday. The vehicle was located at an apartment complex in the 9000 block of Vantage Point Road, near Washington Avenue and Buffalo Drive, at 2 a.m. today, with the unidentified male suspect hiding inside.

Officer Barbara Morgan said SWAT negotiated with the suspect for several hours, and did not approach the armed suspect. At 5:13 a.m., the suspect shot himself in the head, she said.

“(SWAT) was trying to tell him, ‘It’s a stolen vehicle, it’s not worth dying over,’ ” said Morgan.

Police did not identify the man.
