Las Vegas police are seeking the public’s help in finding a suspect in a sexual assault that happened Dec. 27 about 2:30 p.m. at a gated apartment complex near West Sahara Avenue and South Durango Drive.
The suspect is described as being in his early 20s, standing about 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing about 210 pounds and having a muscular build. He has brown hair and eyes, a close-cropped beard and may have a scar under his right eye.
According to police, the suspect knocked on the door of the victim’s residence at Allanza at the Lakes wearing a light blue, short-sleeved, button-down shirt with a “Cox” emblem on the left side, dark blue pants and leather gloves.
When the victim opened the door, the suspect forced his way inside and then sexually assaulted her, police said. The man left the residence and the victim contacted police.
A resident of the apartment complex, 26-year-old Tim Espinosa, said he heard about the assault Monday evening from a Facebook post by a friend who lives down the street.
Espinosa said his wife and female roommate, who walks home from work at night, are often home alone.
He and his wife have lived in the complex for two years and plan to sign another lease. “These are nice apartments,” Espinosa said. “It’s a quiet area.”
It is believed that the suspect is impersonating a Cox Communications employee and doesn’t actually work for the company.
Representatives of Cox Communications are cooperating with the investigation.
“I actually go through Cox for my Internet,” Espinosa said, “so it’s not unreasonable for them to be here, I just wouldn’t know why.”
Espinosa’s brother goes to their apartment in the mornings for their carpool. “Dead bolt, both locks until he gets there,” Espinosa told his wife and roommate, “and make sure it’s him.”
“My house is on total lockdown,” Espinosa said, “and no one answers the door but me.”
Anyone with information regarding the identity or location of this suspect is urged to contact Las Vegas police Sexual Assault Detail at 828-3421, or to remain anonymous contact Crime Stoppers at 385-5555 or at www.crimestoppersofnv.com.
