Las Vegas truck driver honored: 5.2 million miles without an accident

CARSON CITY — Las Vegas truck driver Sergio Lemus was honored in the Nevada Legislature on Tuesday for driving 5.2 million miles without an accident.

Lemus was introduced in the state Senate and identified as the Driver of the Year in Nevada for his impeccable safety record.

Earlier he told an audience of trucking industry officials and legislators that drivers can be safe if they “don’t veer from the rules of the road.”

Born in Guadalajara, Mexico, he moved to the United States in 1975 and has lived in Las Vegas since 2003. He has been a commercial truck driver for 37 years. Lemus has worked for Truline Corp. for the past 10 years. He and his wife, Catherine, have three children.
