Reno man dies after being struck by car on Boulder Highway

A 50-year-old Reno man died after being struck by a car just before 11 p.m. Tuesday while trying to cross Boulder Highway south of Harmon Avenue.

Las Vegas police said the man, whose name has not been released, was not in a marked crosswalk. He was struck by 2004 Nissan Sentra that drove away without stopping, police said.

The man was taken to Sunrise Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Officers later found the Nissan and arrested its driver, identified as 44-year-old David Nieto of Las Vegas, on suspicion of drunken driving and fleeing the scene of an accident.

The accident remains under investigation. It was the 63rd traffic-related death this year in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's jurisdiction.
