Review-Journal to close eForum section of website
December 18, 2012 - 2:03 am
The eForum section of the Las Vegas Review-Journal's website will close Jan. 1.
Readers can still comment directly at the bottom of each story.
Persistent violations of the eForum rules have created a negative experience for many who use the message boards. Staffing to moderate discussions is not available. The Review-Journal has chosen to shut down the boards rather than dedicating staff to the task.
The value of anonymous comments has declined as a legitimate source of information. While the comments are sometimes entertaining, they too often cross the line to offensive or abusive.
The opportunity to comment on our stories will expand early next year. In addition to allowing readers to connect using Facebook, the website will allow connections from Twitter, Google+ or Disqus. Readers are encouraged to make use of this service. The comments at the bottom of each story pass through filters to block offensive language, and readers have easy access to report abuses to our webmaster team.
When commenting, stay on topic and do not insult others. Your opinion is valuable and your tolerance of other views is important.
