Second woman dies after NDOT truck hit parked car

CARSON CITY -- Authorities say a second woman died from injuries suffered when a Nevada Department of Transportation truck rear-ended a parked vehicle on a highway near Fernley.

Nevada Highway Patrol reported one woman in the parked SUV was killed instantly, and the second died at Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno after the 8:30 a.m. Monday crash on the shoulder of U.S. Highway 50 about eight miles east of Fernley.

The identities of the women were not made public.

Officials say the state road vehicle tipped on its side, and the driver was hospitalized with injuries that were described as moderate.

An NDOT spokesman said the driver was on the way to a road-striping work site but was not painting at the time of the crash.
