Shoplifting suspect rams Las Vegas police car, injures officer

A Las Vegas police officer suffered minor injuries when his squad car was rammed by a shoplifting suspect’s vehicle Friday morning.

Wal-Mart security called police about 3:30 a.m. about two shoplifters. The responding officer tried to stop a man matching one of the descriptions who was running from the store in the 5200 block of South Fort Apache Road, near Hacienda Avenue.

The officer was unable to stop him from getting into a vehicle with the second suspect, police said.

After the officer got into his car, the suspect’s vehicle rammed the police car.

The officer sustained minor injuries and was taken to University Medical Center.

The suspects fled the scene and were apprehended by another police unit in a residential area near Alta Drive and Rainbow Boulevard.

Police reported two suspects were in custody Friday morning. Their names and any charges were not immediately released.

The investigation is ongoing.
