Six reported dead in Lake Havasu shooting

LAKE HAVASU CITY, ARIZ. -- Police in Lake Havasu City, Ariz. report six people are dead after a late Saturday night shooting followed by the death of the gunman who took his own life early Sunday in California. Sergeant Joe Harrold said investigators believe that 26-year-old Brian Diez opened fire shortly after 11:00 p.m. after entering a home in the 300 block of Opossum Drive.

Diez's estranged girlfriend, the mother of two his children, Deborah Langstaff was dead at the scene, Harrold said. He said also dead at the scene were 24-year-old Primo Verdone, 42-year-old Russell Nyland and 20-year-old Ashley Nyland.

Gunshot victims Brock Kelson, 20, and Deborah Nyland, 44, were rushed to Havasu Regional Medical Center where Nelson was pronounced dead. Harrold said Nyland was in critical condition when transported to Sunrise Medical Center in Las Vegas.

Harrold said Diez abducted his two childen from the murder scene. He said Diez drove to Rancho Cucamonga, California, leaving 13-month old Cole Diez and 4-year-old Kaia Diez with relatives after 3:00 a.m.

Harrold said Diez was subsequently discovered dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The children were safe with family.
