Brandon Gahagan died in the parking lot of a southeast Las Vegas restaurant after his shooter stood over his prone body and fired into the 21-year-old's chest, a Las Vegas police report said.
Carlos Orellana, 23, named as a suspect in the shooting, surrendered to police Monday and is being held without bail at the Clark County Detention Center on charges of murder with a deadly weapon and attempted murder with a deadly weapon.
A female witness told police she heard Orellana say something like "You're not going to (expletive) with my homies," before shots were fired. Two other victims were injured during the incident.
The shooting, which was reported at 12:01 a.m. Sunday, followed a fight outside the Olive Mediterranean Grill and Hookah Bar, 3850 E. Sunset Road, near Sandhill Road. According to the police report, Orellana and Gahagan were with separate groups of people inside the eatery that began fighting.
The fight was taken outside where witnesses told police they saw a Hispanic male in a red shirt pull out a gun and begin firing randomly. At one point, the gunman chased an unidentified person while firing shots, the arrest report said. Police recovered seven .40-caliber bullet casings at the scene.
Orellana was wearing a red shirt earlier that day, according to his arrest report. The car seen fleeing the scene was registered to Orellana, who also owns a .40-caliber handgun, police said.
Orellana consulted with attorney Damian Sheets, who assisted the Las Vegas man in surrendering to police Monday.
"I ask that the public keep an open mind," Sheets said. "I believe there is more to this case than people are being led to believe."
Orellana has one prior battery and domestic violence charge from September with the Metropolitan Police Department.
