Standoff ends with murder-suicide in central valley home

A man shot and killed his wife before turning the gun on himself in a central valley neighborhood Saturday night, Las Vegas police said.

The man called police at 7:34 p.m. claiming that he had shot the woman and he was going to shoot himself, police said. When officers responded to the call from the 3800 block of Maryland Parkway, the man told police he wouldn't come out of his home and would shoot any officer who tried to arrest him.

SWAT officers surrounded the home while negotiators tried to coax the man to surrender, according to police. SWAT officers entered the home after hearing a single gunshot and found a woman dead and the man suffering from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

He was taken to University Medical Center and died Sunday morning, according to police. The names of the two people were not released.

Investigators have not determined a motive for the incident.
