State treasurer misses out on chance to cast delegate vote for Obama

CARSON CITY- Because of her duties as president of the National Association of State Treasurers, state Treasurer Kate Marshall said Thursday she had to miss the Democratic National Convention and a chance to cast her delegate vote for President Barack Obama.

Marshall added she informed state Democratic Chairwoman Roberta Lange well in advance that she would miss the convention. She said she gave all her convention passes to Lange.

"I can't be away from work for so long," Marshall added. "I have significant obligations at the conference."

The treasurers' association begins its annual conference Friday in Anchorage, Alaska. The convention runs through Wednesday. If she had attended both conventions, Marshall would have been out of her office for nearly two weeks.

Her selection as a delegate came through her service as co-chair of the Democratic State Treasurers organization. The leaders of this organization automatically become delegates. Marshall said she knew two years ago that she would be a delegate. Nevada had 44 delegates at the convention.
