Stuckey sticks it to Lakers
Rodney Stuckey had 21 points, five rebounds and four assists to lead the Detroit Pistons past the Los Angeles Lakers 84-73 in the third game of the first day of action in the NBA Vegas Summer League at Cox Pavilion on the UNLV campus. Stuckey made 9 of 10 from the free-throw line. Aaron Afflalo added 15 points for Detroit.
Former Brigham Young forward Trent Plaisted had 10 points and five rebounds and thrilled the crowd with a powerful, two-handed dunk on a breakaway in the fourth quarter.
Denver Nuggets coach George Karl was in attendance watching his son, Coby, play for the Lakers.
"It's a lot of fun. Summertime is kind of for seeing what you've got for the upcoming year, and I thought he played well," Karl said of his son.
He also talked about competing against his son last season. Coby played in two games against the Nuggets, seeing three and two minutes of action and scoring one point.
"It's just a continuous process of being proud as a father," Karl said. "I admire and respect and love him for his perseverance. Not many people expected to see him in the NBA. I'm just a proud papa."
Karl led the Lakers with 14 points. Former UNR forward Marcelus Kemp scored two. Davon Jefferson did not play.
The Mavericks and the Clippers will be the final game of the day. The Dallas roster includes former San Diego State star Marcus Slaughter and may be the most talent-laden we've seen today. Shan Foster, Gerald Green, JaJuan Smith, Reyshawn Terry and last year's NCAA scoring leader Reggie Williams also will be in action.
The Clippers also brought some names. Former UNR star Nick Fazekas is joined by former SDSU guard Brandon Heath and lottery pick Eric Gordon. Al Thornton is also on the team after a breakout regular season in Los Angeles. There should be some fireworks in this one.
