Ten lawyers apply for retiring Washoe district judge’s position

RENO - Ten lawyers have applied to replace retiring Washoe County District Judge Steven Elliott.

Applicants include state Ethics Commission Director Caren Cafferata-Jenkins, Deputy Attorney General Gina Session, and Washoe County deputy district attorneys Elliott Sattler and Patricia Halstead.

The others are Reno attorneys Lansford Levitt, Marc Picker, Douglas Rands, Lynne Simons, John Springgate and Phillip Stone.

The Nevada Commission on Judicial Selection, which accepted applications through Friday, now will conduct background investigations and interviews.

The commission will submit the names of three finalists to Gov. Brian Sandoval, who will appoint Elliott's successor.

Elliott, who was the Sparks city attorney for 18 years before becoming a district judge, is retiring March 12 after 16 years on the bench.
