Two dogs who bit children to be euthanized

The two dogs who bit two Las Vegas children last week are being held at the Lied Animal Shelter awaiting a scheduled euthanization.

Las Vegas Animal Control issued eight citations to the owner of the two bullmastiffs, who bit a 5-year-old boy and a 12-year-old girl Oct. 23 in the 4000 block of Abrams Avenue, near Lamb Boulevard and Washington Avenue, according to City of Las Vegas spokesman Jace Radke.

The owner was cited for not licensing the dogs, not neutering them, not getting them rabies shots and for the dogs running loose.

The boy was in serious condition after the attack and the girl suffered superficial injuries, according to Las Vegas police. No update on the boy’s condition was immediately available.

The children, who were bit just after 5 p.m., lived in the same neighborhood as the dogs, Radke said.

The dogs will be euthanized at the end of a 10-day hold that began just after the incident.

In 2012, a Henderson dog was scheduled to be euthanized after killing a 1-year-old boy. Onion remains at the Henderson Animal Care and Control while his case is tied in a legal battle.

The 120-pound mixed-breed dog accidentally killed Jeremiah Eskew-Shahan on April 27, 2012. Onion grabbed the boy by his head after the child fell on him and grabbed his ears. The dog let go after a few seconds, but the boy died from his injuries.

Onion is represented by the Lexus Project, a animal rights group seeking to prevent his death. They claim that Onion had shown no aggressive behavior prior to the tragic accident and want him sent to a sanctuary in Colorado.
