Visual proof: The more things change, the more things remain the same

On Monday 250 members of a Nevada National Guard unit returned home to family and friends after nine months of combat operations in Afghanistan. Review-Journal photographer Gary Thompson captured the scene with this photograph that was prominently displayed on the front page.

 

Does it look vaguely familiar?

Perhaps that is because things haven't changed all that much in this war from previous ones. Such as this Pulitizer Prize winning photograph from March 17, 1973, taken by Associated Press photographer Sal Veder of a Vietnam POW returning home to Travis Air Force Base.
