Wagners ready to wake you up

KVBC-TV, Channel 3 launches "Wake Up With the Wagners" on Monday, a husband-wife morning show featuring Dana and Kim Wagner.

After joining KVBC in 2001, they briefly co-anchored in the morning four years ago before he moved to the evening weather slot and she became a reporter and weekend anchor.

"For us it's all about having fun in the morning," Dana said. It helps "that there are certain things you can say to your wife that you can't say to another co-anchor."

They met at Reno's KOLO-TV and he popped the question six months later at the Eiffel Tower in Paris on July 6, 1999, by writing on a graffiti wall, "Kim will you marry me?"

They'll bring a Regis-and-Kelly style of banter to the show, from 7-9 a.m. on weekdays. The morning show has been a format copy of the evening news broadcasts.

"We're going to do a more true morning-style show," Kim said. "It's not going to be all light and fluffy. We're journalists. There will be meat and potatoes and some dessert, too."

They're excited that Jason Latham, who produces the 11 p.m. newscast, turned down a CNN offer to join them.

"He's our Gelman," she said, referring to "Live With Regis & Kelly" executive producer Michael Gelman, who often offers humorous asides.

The plan is to mix in some local celebrities with the news, traffic and weather.

THE PUNCH LINE

"Big political news. There was a mix-up at the Hillary Clinton rally in Iowa. Bill Clinton showed up, and people thought he was Bob Barker. They were all disappointed. So was Hillary. She thought he was going to get spayed and neutered." -- Craig Ferguson
