Was that Kobe Bryant?

Jack Nicholson was not wearing shades and sitting courtside for the Lakers game. Phil Jackson was nowhere near Cox Pavilion, either.

But Kobe Bryant did make a surprise NBA Summer League appearance, sort of.

After the Lakers’ Coby Karl made a jumper in the second half, public address announcer Dick Calvert credited the basket to “Kobe Bryant.” That drew a loud reaction from the crowd.

“It was a mistake. It just slipped out,” said Calvert, who regularly works UNLV games.

Karl led the Lakers with 16 points in a win against Memphis, but he shot 0-for-5 on 3-pointers. There’s a big difference between that Coby and Kobe the league MVP.
